Pidurangala Rock is a popular tourist destination in Sri Lanka. It is located a short distance from the more famous Sigiriya Rock Fortress, and offers stunning views of the surrounding area. The rock is also home to a number of Buddhist caves, including the Pidurangala Royal Cave Temple.
Pidurangala Rock is a large, reddish-brown rock that rises up to about 200 meters above the surrounding plain. It is located just a few kilometers north of Sigiriya, and can be reached by a short tuk-tuk ride or a longer walk. The hike to the top of the rock is relatively easy, and takes about 30 minutes to an hour.
The views from the top of Pidurangala Rock are simply stunning. On a clear day, you can see for miles around, including the Sigiriya Rock Fortress, the Knuckles Mountains, and the Mahaweli River. The rock is also a great place to watch the sunrise or sunset. In addition to the views, Pidurangala Rock is also home to a number of Buddhist caves. The most important of these is the Pidurangala Royal Cave Temple, which contains a large reclining Buddha statue. The cave temple is believed to have been built in the 5th or 6th century AD, during the reign of King Kassapa. Pidurangala Rock is a great place to visit if you are interested in history, nature, or Buddhism. It is a beautiful and peaceful place, and the views from the top are simply unforgettable.
