Ape Gama, Battaramulla
Last updated on 17 Apr 2023Show location
Ape Gama is a reproduction of a traditional old-time Sri Lankan hamlet located in Sri Lanka. This is close to "Diyatha Park" in Battaramulla. Ape Gama demonstrates traditional businesses, rural life, and how self-sufficient Sri Lankan society was back then.
This location used to be known as the "Battaramulla Janakala Kendraya," which featured regional handicrafts. For the 2013 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM), the entire region was renovated to showcase the unique facets of old Sri Lankan village life, replete with a bird-watching zone and a small zoo.
With meticulous planning and attention to every last detail, the excellent reconstruction of village life in Sri Lanka has been accomplished. It is located at the Jana Kala Kendraya in Battaramulla, not too far from Colombo. The idea has been meticulously realized, from the well-kept garden to the numerous wattled-enclosed mud homes to the figurines of men and women in various poses. All the exhibits highlight the simplicity and plainness that characterize country life. Each week, "Ape Gama in Sri Lanka" draws huge crowds of tourists looking for a quick getaway in an unusual setting.
