In Colombo, Sri Lanka, there is a public observatory called Sri Lanka observatory. The Ministry of Science, Technology, and Research maintains the nation's first and only planetarium as an agency.

The country's sole planetarium, the Sri Lanka Planetarium, is located in Colombo, the capital of Sri Lanka. On February 1st, 1965, the Planetarium was officially opened as a part of the Ceylon Industrial Exhibition. Today, the planetarium provides science aficionados with educational and other astronomy shows. Under the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Research, it is kept up as an institution. The Sri Lanka Planetarium in Colombo immediately catches your attention with its intriguing and yet familiar architecture. N. The. is the State Engineering Corporation of Sri Lanka's chief engineer. It was created by Kulasinghe and is constructed in the form of a lotus flower. Because he intended it to resemble a lotus flower if you were to fly above it for whatever reason. It was taken from two renowned structures on two different continents: the Cathedral of Brasilia by Oscar Niemeyer and the Metropolitan Cathedral of Liverpool by Sir Frederick Gibbard. The structure has a pre-positioned pre-stressed concrete bending slab roof and a reinforced concrete floor. The Democratic Republic of Germany gave the structure to Sri Lanka.

The planetarium currently has 570 more seats than its main spheric due to much-needed repairs made in 2014, and a new 4D/digital full-spherical projector shows off the universe in all its splendor. It is composed of pre-cast ships brought from Singapore, is 100 feet tall, and has 32 pillars (also known as lotus petals). You may look at the night sky from another nation, explore the cosmos, marvel at eclipses, meteor showers, comets, and other celestial events. You can even marvel at the midnight sunrise from the Arctic Circle. In addition, the planetarium frequently conducts scientific fairs, conferences, and workshops.
