The Koggala Folk Museum, which was built as a memorial to the esteemed Sinhala author Martin Wickramasinghe, exhibits a varied collection divided into 25 different categories, including rare handicrafts, cottage industries, folk music and art, and traditional medicine. It is regarded as a location of immense significance because it is thought that the great writer's birthplace had a significant impact on how he was mounded from an early age.

An display of the author's titles with framed book jackets welcomes visitors. To get to the museum's main structure, one must cross a lovely botanical garden filled with many varieties of plants. This exhibit features a collection gathered by the author's children that depicts aspects of Sri Lankan rural and urban life, including the lives of fishermen, traditional food, kolam masks, colonial crockery, and historic jewelry. This collection of popular arts revives a significant portion of the nation's past that was lost with the arrival of the modern period. The author's home, which is found at the end of the garden, marks the conclusion of the tour. Here, you can view the original furnishings in his bedroom, study, dining area, and bathroom.

The birthplace of Martin Wickramasinghe fortunately avoided the horrors of World War II. In order to make room for an air force base, his entire hamlet was completely destroyed in 1942. The base commander's wife requested that this house be kept so that she may reside there. An display of the author's titles with framed book jackets welcomes visitors.
